The film is the fifth theatrical installment in the franchise (not counting the 2023 miniseries and the comic book John Wick: The Book of Rules ) and takes place, chronologically, between the events of Chapter 3, Parabellum , and Chapter 4.
In the third chapter we discover a part of John Wick ‘s mysterious past , his ties to the Russian mafia – specifically to the Ruska Roma , the Russian Roma of Belarus – when Wick requests an interview with ” The Director “, a woman who is the head of the local organization and who took him in as a child when John was an orphan in Belarus.
