Ennio Morricone Tribute

Ancient Theatre, Saturday 2nd August 2025 @ 9.00pm

The program, in addition to the evocative soundtracks of some symbolic films in the history of cinema such as Cinema Paradiso, Malèna, A Fistful of Dollars, Once Upon a Time in the West, Once Upon a Time in America and other masterpieces, will be enriched by authentic musical novelties and entirely inspired by the “pop” side of the Italian composer.

Hans Zimmer Tribute

Taormina Ancient Theatre, Thursday 31st July 2025 @9:00pm

Hans Florian Zimmer (born 1957) is a German film score composer and music producer. He has won two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, five Grammy Awards, and has been nominated for three Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. Zimmer was also named on the list of Top 100 Living Geniuses.
His works are notable for integrating electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. Since the 1980s, Zimmer has composed music for over 150 films. His works include Gladiator (2000), The Last Samurai (2003), the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2003–2011), The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012), Inception (2010), Man of Steel (2013), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), No Time to Die (2021), and the Dune series (2021–).

During his childhood, he was strongly influenced by the film scores of Ennio Morricone and has cited Once Upon a Time in the West as the score that inspired him to become a film composer.

Simple Minds

Simple Minds are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1977, whose frontman is Jim Kerry.
The band became best known internationally for their song “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” (1985). They have sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and were the most commercially successful Scottish band of the 1980s.Simple Minds have had chart success in the United States, Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy and New Zealand.

Jim Kerr lives in Taormina, with his Japanese partner Yumi, where he owns the hotel Villa Angela. He has Italian citizenship.

Peppe Barra

Giuseppe “Peppe” Barra (born 24 July 1944) is an Italian folk singer, actor, playwright and composer.

Born in Rome into a family of Procidan actors, when he was only 6 Barra enrolled in an acting school for children, Teatrino di Zietta Liù. In the early 1970s, he befriended Roberto De Simone and entered the Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare ensemble, with whom he stayed until 1978.

In 1982, Maurizio Scaparro as artistic director of the Carnival of Venice asked Barra to make a performance, and on this occasion Barra launched “Peppe e Barra”, a musical that marked the beginning of the stage company “Peppe e Concetta Barra” with his mother Concetta, and that got a large success, being staged in Italy for several seasons and also performed in New York, Paris, Barcelona, Bonbay and Geneva, among other places. In 1992, he made his solo discographic debut with Mo vene, for which he won the Targa Tenco for Best Performer. His variegated career also include films and television.
